What You Need to Know
- Attorneys say to expect many more products liability filings in state court concerning the use of hair relaxers.
- An October 2022 study on reproductive health and product usage established a link between reproductive system cancers and hair relaxers.
- Now, litigators are also pursuing similar claims in state court.
As hair relaxer products liability multidistrict litigation is underway in the Northern District of Illinois, there is a corresponding surge brewing in Georgia’s state courts—particularly in Chatham and DeKalb counties.
The influx of new lawsuits stems from the release of a 2022 study from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences that found women who used hair relaxers more than four times a year were more than twice as likely to develop uterine cancer.
