King & Wood Mallesons and White & Case are advising as U.S. gold miner Newmont makes a $17 billion bid for Australia’s Newcrest, which is being advised by Herbert Smith Freehills.
Newmont’s proposal is for a scheme of arrangement, where Newcrest shareholders are issued scrip in Newmont in exchange for their shares.
