McDermott Will & Emery and Gibson Dunn & Crutcher have pulled off a rare feat: the completion of a deal involving the sale of a storied rum brand from Venezuela, a country that has been a no-go zone for M&A transactions for more than a decade.
McDermott represented the Diplomático rum brand in its pre-transaction structuring in the U.S. and Europe and its eventual sale to U.S. wine and spirits company Brown‑Forman Corporation, the maker of Jack Daniel’s whisky, for $725 million.
