The American Civil Liberties Union and online industry groups have come out against widely popular legislation that would give the Federal Trade Commission greater authority to protect children’s privacy and regulate marketing toward them on the internet.

With the Senate’s 91-3 vote Tuesday, the jointly proposed Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Rule 2.0 and the Kids Online Safety Act appear destined for House passage and President Joe Biden’s signature as early as this fall to the dismay of the ACLU.
