A prominent businessman has enlisted Hogan Lovells to defend him against accusations of misusing around £150 million from Thurrock Council to pay for his “lavish lifestyle”.
The council has alleged that the businessman Liam Kavanagh took tens of millions of pounds that were meant for investment in renewable energy plants and instead used the money to buy luxury items including a private jet, a yacht and country estate in Hampshire.
